It is not the first time I use a woodblock print by Walter J. Phillips as an inspiration. Evening Splendor was the first version, but this piece was inspired by the hand-dyed block pattern I used in the Sea Turtles quilt. Remnants of this fabric became an inspiration, and through Raw Edge Appliqué, embroidery, and hand-dyed cheesecloth accents, the composition came to life. Then, I purchased the hand-dyed border fabric from Heidi Hunter from Runs With Scissors, which pulled all the elements together. I am pleased that this piece was awarded a prize, but most importantly, the judge complimented me on how the background fabric enhanced the light in the composition.
