SUMMER BOUQUET

2014
Size: 27.5″ Wide x 54″ Long
Pattern by Donna Woloschuk
Quilted by: Janice Almli Newman

I believe the background fabric pulls the design together. This tie-dye print came from England and I purchased it in Fort Frances, Canada in three different colorways. This one is the most dramatic and creates a wonderful backdrop for the flower basket. All the flowers have been extensively ruched and make the flowers stand out and very realistic.

DAZZLE

Composition influenced by designs in the book Stupendous Stitching by Carol Ann Waugh

3rd Place – Art Quilts – 2018 Las Colcheras Quilt Show, Las Cruces, New Mexico

I loved the stitching ideas in the book Stupendous Stitching, which I had to apply on a stunning ombré fabric I found in a quilt shop in Fort Frances, Canada. I collected various scraps of yarns, ribbons, and other tie-dye fabrics to compose this piece. I enjoyed this creative process and making of this stunning textured fabric art. This wall-hanging drew the eye of the judge a the Las Colcherss Quilt Show as well as compliments from friends.

FALL AT THE LAKE OF THE WOODS

2002
Size: 15″ Wide x 12″ High
My own composition, inspired by a woodblock print by Walter J. Phillips.
Quilted by: Janice Almli Newman

3rd Place – 2003 Annual Quilt Show of the Lake of the Woods Quilters Guild, Kenora Ontario, Canada
Honorable Mention – Art Quilts – 2014 Las Colcheras Quilt Show, Las Cruces, New Mexico

An exhibition of Walter J. Phillips at the MUSE in Kenora, Canada drew my attention to his work. So when I took a quilting landscapes class with Nancy Bergman, I decided to follow one of Phillips’ prints. This quilt is a collage of fabrics that are appliqued and sewn on. Some elements are loosely attached and offer a 3D effect. I love the pattern-mix that came together here.
